Eating out: enjoy it without feeling guilty

Eating out is part of life. With a few things in mind, it can still fit in with your goals.

No reason to stay at home

A meal with friends or business partners isn't a step backwards. What counts isn't a single evening, but what you do most weeks.

What I pay attention to in a restaurant

  • Vegetables or salad on the side: as a starter or side dish
  • Choose a source of protein: fish, meat, tofu or pulses
  • Swap your sides: you can often have vegetables instead of chips at no extra cost
  • Sauces on the side: that way you decide how much

Don't arrive starving

If you barely eat all day to 'save room' for the evening, you often end up ordering more than is good for you. Eating normally and not turning up at the restaurant ravenous is the better strategy.

Dessert or not?

If you fancy it, order it and enjoy it mindfully. Or share it. Banning things only makes them more tempting.

My tip

Before you go out to eat, pick one thing you want to focus on, for example vegetables as a side. One thing is enough.
